Our Church thrives because of the energy and commitment of the people who are a part of our leadership team. Here are a few of the people that make our church community special:


Rev. Jas


Rev. Jasmine Quinerly - Minister of Missions


Reverend Jasmine C. Quinerly is a native of Hope, Arkansas, and was reared in Houston, Texas.  She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master of Divinity from Houston Graduate School of Theology.  Jasmine is affectionately known a Rev. Jazz, and serves in many capacities at various levels of leadership at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ.  She is Chairperson of the Deacons, Secretary of Pilgrim Sisters United, and a member of Prayer Chain. Jasmine is the very proud mother of Verrene Quinerly of Austin Texas, and Reggie and (Toni Harris) Quinerly of New York.

Susan Guess , currently serving as administrative assistant to the Senior Pastor since 2001. A native Houstonian, was educated in Houston Public schools and received her Bachelors degree from Texas Southern University and Masters degree from Prairie View A&M University. Susan and her husband,Sam, have been married for 23 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Sam and Stephen.


Youth Minister Kim Powell

Kim comes to us with a wealth of experience and God given talents. Kim is a graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelors of Social Work as well as a Masters of Arts from Prairie View A&M University. Kim’s ministry background spans from 1999 to the present as the Area Director of Younglife. Kim has also served as a probation officer for the Travis Juvenile Court system for over 5 years. We are proud and excited for what God has in store for us through His outstanding servant Kim.


Minister of Music Cynthia Hall

Cynthia was born and reared in Houston, Texas. She attended elementary school at J. Will Jones and G. B. M. Turner, Miller Junior High School, and graduated from Yates High School in 1966. Cynthia received her B. A. in Education from Texas Southern University, Bilingual Certification from University of Houston and her M.A. in Curriculum and Education from The University of Phoenix. Her thirty nine (39) years in education includes her experience as a middle school classroom teacher in North Forest and Houston Independent School Districts, and as a teacher specialist with Project GRAD. Cynthia’s has three wonderful children: Chelsey, an insurance claims adjuster, Tiffini, a teacher in Dallas, Texas, and Marlon, Pastor of Awakenings Movement and adjunct lecturer at Duke University. She enjoys reading and movies, but her pride and joy is found in the “company” of her four (4) grandchildren; Cody, Phoenix, Bella, and Denym. Cynthia aspires to walk in God’s will, to grow deeper in His Word, and to seek greater ways to be used in His service.

Church Council Vice Chair Dr. Jene Washington

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Dr. Jene Washington was christened over 50 years ago by the Reverend John D. Moore at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ. She has never held membership at any other church. She was educated in the public schools of the Houston Independent School District and received a B.A. degree in Psychology from Spelman College, Atlanta, Ga. Her further studies include a Master’s Degree in Community/Clinical Psychology and a Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education, both from Texas Southern University. Jene worked as a clinician and administrator in the mental health field for 14 years and has devoted the last 24 years working in the field of education in Houston. Her commitment to #movingpilgimforward is evident through her volunteer work for the church, its ministries and the daycare center. She is the current Chairperson of the Pilgrim Daycare Center Advisory Committee, serves as the Vice Chairperson on the Church Council and has lent a hand to the efforts of the Manna House Food Pantry and other church/community events.

Jewel Barton Butler Jr. was born in Houston, Texas. He has been a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ for 58 years. He has been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 34.6 years and will be retiring in November 2015. Jewel served in the Air Force/Military for 4 years. He has served on the church Board of Trustees and currently commits his time to the church Laymen's Fellowship and the Church Council as Treasurer. Jewel is married with children.
